Production process of tie-dye
Tie-dyeing process is divided into two parts: tying and dyeing. It is dyed after tying, sewing, binding, embellishing and clamping the fabric in various combinations by means of yarn, thread, rope and other tools. Its purpose is to play a role in preventing dyeing for the knotted part of the fabric, so that the knotted part remains the original color, while the unknotted part is evenly dyed. Thus the formation of uneven shades, layers of color halo and wrinkle print. The tighter and firmer the fabric is tied, the better the anti-dyeing effect. It can be dyed into ordinary tie-dye fabrics with regular patterns, and it can also be dyed into complex compositions showing figurative patterns and exquisite handicrafts with a variety of brilliant colors, which are childish and simple, novel and chic. The combination of blue and white colors often gives people a sense of elegance like "celadon", and peace and tolerance are reflected in the sky of tie-dye.
Tie-dyeing is generally made of cotton and white cloth or cotton and linen blended white cloth as raw materials, and the main dyestuff comes from the indigo solution of natural plants such as Liao Lan, Ban Lan Gen and Artemisia, especially Ban Lan Gen, which grow on Cang Mountain. In the past, it was used for dyeing cloth, it was wild in the mountains, it was a perennial herb, with small pink flowers, then the amount was large, the people who dyed cloth planted it themselves in the mountains, the good ones could grow to half a man's height, and it was harvested in March and April every year, soaked out the water, injected into the wooden dyeing vat, mixed with some lime or industrial alkali, then it could be used for dyeing cloth. The production method of tie-dyeing is unique, and old books vividly describe the process of ancient people making tie-dye: "'fetching' handfuls of knots, and then dyeing. That is, dyeing, then untie its knot, where the knot is the original color, the rest is into the dyeing carry on, its color splendid." The main steps of tie-dyeing are painting, tying, soaking, dyeing, steaming, drying, dismantling, rinsing, grinding, etc. Among them, there are mainly two processes of tying and soaking, and the key technology is the tying technique and dyeing skill. The main tools for tie-dyeing are dyeing jars, dyeing sticks, sun-drying frames and stone mills.
